Weasel

The weasels scientific name is Mustela erminea.

Weasels are small, furry animals with a long, slender body and short legs. They have brown or reddish-brown fur on their back and sides with white or yellow on their underside. Some weasels have a similar pattern in colour as a skunk. Weasels change white in winter.

Weasels live in every country except for Australia and Antarctica. A common North American weasel is the long-tailed weasel which grows 12-18 inches long including the tail. It weighs up to 12 ounces.

Weasels have a sharp sense of smell and keen eyesight. They are excellent hunters by moving quickly and catching animals their own size or larger. They kill by cutting their victims spinal column.

Weasels eat squirrels, mice, chickens, earthworms, small birds, snakes, rabbits, frogs, lizards and other rodents.
