Student Research  Online Activities | Challenge Game  |  Hotlist  |   Grassroots 2002

Project Overview

Following a Social Studies unit on Slavery and a novel study of Underground to Canada  by Barbara Smucker, the students and I brainstormed for possible topics we could research to have a better understanding of the problems the black people faced.

Part One:

The students collected information from the internet, videos, and a variety of books.  They were required to take jot notes, make an outline, rough copy, revise and edit before finishing their good copy.

bullet

Part 2:

Students created a PowerPoint presentation.  After their presentation was complete they made up Quia activities as a follow up student activity for other students to do.  Also, using information from their report, students made questions with answers that could be used in a Jeopardy game. Using a PowerPoint template for a Jeopardy type challenge  game, it was very easy to add our own questions and answers.

As an extension to this activity, I would like to use Publisher to create a classroom newspaper called “ The Underground Times”.
