                 Motocross

              Scramble or as we know it Motocross first started in March 29, 1924. The first race was in Camberley,
Surrey over 25 miles cross-country. Between 1924 and 1934 France came up with the name Motocross by “Motorcycle” and “Cross-Country. In 1972 there was a new name for Motocross, Super cross and it was named by “Super bowl” and “Cross Country”.

The first bike was made in 1885. The person’s name was Gottie.B.Daimler. There was four main parts on the bike and they are, the engine, wheels, a transmission system, and the breaks and the frame held it together.

In the 1930’sit grow popularity especially in Brittan. In 1926 New York Motocross club started a race called Tourist Trophy. The first major international team Motocross was hosted by the North lands in 1947. The first major “Motocross” race was in 1959.California dealers for Husqverna of Sweeten made it really popular in the
U.S.A. In the 1960, the Japanese challenged the Europeans. But the Europeans donated the sport in 1970. But when 1980 came the U.S rides caught up and started to win races. The race tracks were on, ovals and house tracks and bicycle tracks too. In 1947, FIM, the Motocross des nations, fully embraced Motocross. In 1960, Europe began selling their technology to North America. A few years after 1960 Motocross had taken place in America. In 1972, The Europeans dominated the sport. But in 1980 the U.S was better. In 1980/90 the names of the rides became house hold names. Today Motocross is the nation’s best attended Moto sport on dirt. The most common events where, track racing, endurance trails and hill climbing.

 

Part 2 Canadian history of motocross

 

September 1, 1951 was the first race in Canada, Ontario. The winners were, Jim Verrall and Gerald Robarts came in second. In the under 200cc, Jack Hoover came in first and Doc Moe came in second. The first National champion ship was in September 15, 1957 it was at, Delson Quebec. The winners were George Davic in the senior class, Gerry Marshell in the expert class. The eastern Canadian Champion ship was in Cope town in September 1, 1958. The winners were, in the expert class was Larry Bastedo, in the senior class the winner was, Robert Sundercombe. In 1960 the championships were at, Mosport Park on September 4. The winners were, 200cc Bill Wetzel, in the 250cc, Ron Wheatle. In 1962 the nationals where at Cope town in August. The winners were, in the 200cc the winner was Ron Wheatle, in the 250cc the winner was, Dick Gariepy. In 1964, the nationals were at Quebec for the first time since 1957. The winners were, in the 250cc class Mo Fraser, in the 500cc class, Terry Porter. In 1972, the Nationals were in Quebec. The winners were, Ron Keys winning for three years straight. In the 250cc class Haiku Ylonen.
