Paper Mache Moons

The students will construct the phases of the moon from paper mache using the previously assigned moon phase.

1. Blow up eight balloons to about the same size.

2. Dip each strip of newspaper into the flour mixture and apply to the balloon.

Cover the surface of the balloon.

Paper Mache Recipe

Stir three parts water into one part flour until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

 

3. Place moons on green strawberry baskets to dry.

4. Paint half the balloon yellow and half black.

5. After the moons are dry, place them on small yogurt containers covered with tin foil.

6. Now it was time to for us to prepare our pod.....The Phases of the Moon Display. How exciting!!!!!

Place the display on a round table. Place the globe in the middle of the table. Then hang a flashlight to represent the sun. Line the flashlight, the earth and the full moon up. Then place all the moons in such a way as to represent the phases of the moon. Have the children involved in setting up the display.

Our children were very proud of their display!
