Northern Pocket Gopher

Appearance:

A Northern Pocket Gopher has a hairless tail, 4 to 14 cm {2 to 6 in} long. The pocket gopher’s legs are short and the feet have powerful claws, which are longer on the forefeet. Northern Pocket Gophers are rat~like animals, 9 to 30 cm {4 to 12 in} in head- and body~length, covered with soft, short fur.

Habits:

It is called a Pocket Gopher because it honeycombs the soil.

Food:

Northern Pocket Gophers are voracious and feed on any type of plants.

Habitat:

Pocket Gophers live mostly in southern Canada and the United States.

Survival Strategies:

It runs into a narrow tunnel in its burrow so that larger animals can’t catch it.

Other Interesting Facts:

The Gopher helps us improve the quality of our soil by loosening the soil.
