Philosophy
of Cut Knife Elementary School
We foster an attitude that school is a safe place for all of us. No one has the right to threaten, intimidate, or persecute another person. Students and staff must feel support and encouragement from each other.
Discipline is preferred through a system of natural consequences rather than punishments. Responsibility for actions must be taken and consequences that naturally result may help us make wiser choices in the future.
Cut Knife Elementary School is a place where we care about each other. Another persons' hurt is shared. Strength and support is afforded to those in distress.
Everyone has the right to learn to the best of his/her ability. Special needs are recognized and efforts are made to accommodate those needs.
Resource Room
The Resource
room program is designed to provide assessment of and assistance to students
with special needs in the area of speech and language, language arts, math,
attention deficits, learning disabilities, and giftedness. These
students are identified early in the year and receive concentrated assistance
in small groups on a daily basis. Resource Room priorities are 1)
Designated Learning Disabled 2)Division One students and 3) Classrooms
with high enrollments.
Students who
cannot be accommodated in the Resource Room are assisted in the regular
classroom by the Teacher Assistant under the joint direction of the classroom
teacher and the Resource Room teacher.
Extended Learning Opportunities
When possible,
this program is offered to students of high academic and creative ability,
for the purpose of providing challenges to their thinking processes and
enriching and extending their knowledge and logical thinking skills.
This group usually meets once a week and students are expected to catch-up
any work they miss in their regular classroom.
Early Entrance Program
Children determined
to be "at risk" due to physical, mental, developmental, or chronic health
impairments are eligible for early entrance (prior to age 5) into the school
system. Programs are set up in consultation with the Director of
Education, the principal, the parents, and appropriate professional consultants.

About
Our Christmas Concert Books
Here is a list of our great
concert resources:
STORYBOOK
CHRISTMAS: A story-telling theme, with Grandpa and granddaughter Kim, whom
he is baby-sitting, as the main characters. While they await for Kim's
parents to arrive from last minute shopping in the city, Grandpa tells
Kim a variety of stories, which are performed on stage.
THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS: Incorporates all the things that put "magic in
the air" at Christmas, as revealed by the main characters, a magician and
his son.
BEST ON THE BOX: A television theme in which Santa Claus, the main character,
is suffering from a cold and spends the day flipping channels to view a
variety of TV programs.
CHRISTMAS CASTAWAYS: A cruise ship goes down at sea and the survivors land
on a deserted tropical island. As it turns out, they're all from
different countries. While they await rescue, they discuss the traditions
of their own countries, which are depicted on stage.
SANTA SURFS THE NET: As Santa investigates the 'Net to find the true meaning
of Christmas, the relevant WEB pages come to life on stage.

Student
Discipline
Discipline is Caring
School can and should be an enjoyable experience for all students. But, with every privilege, certain standards are required with regards to behaviour. As stated in the Education Act, students are expected to "conform to the rules of the school approved by the board of Education and submit to such discipline as would be exercised by a kind, firm and judicious parent."
