The Many Uses of Oil

The Impact of Oil on Southeastern Saskatchewan

The Grade 4 class was studying natural resources. The students brainstormed a list of all the uses of oil they could think of. They also researched other products that were made from oil. They compiled one big list. Then they tried to categorize the items into five groups: transportation, household items, yard & garden, personal, and recreation.

Transportation

Our group looked at Transportation , and all the items that were made by oil and oil products. Some of the most useful items were antifreeze, car battery cases and gasoline. We felt the most important item was tires. We were most surprised with Motorcycle helmets being on our list. We now realize how important oil is to us in our daily lives.

Household Items

Our group looked at household items, and all the things that were made from oil and oil products. Some of the most useful items were trash bags, telephones, and milk jugs. We felt the most important item was trash bags. We were most surprised with Toilet seats being on the list. We now realize how important oil is to us in our daily lives.

Yard and Garden

Our group looked at yard and garden, and all of the items made from oil and oil products. Some of the most useful items were weed killer, and a clothesline. We felt the most important item was weed killer. We were most surprised with garden hose being on our list. We now realize how important oil is to us in our daily lives.

Personal Items

Our group looked at personal items, and all the things that were made from oil and oil products. Some of the most useful items were eye glasses, toothbrushes and shoes. We felt the most important item was the eye glasses. We were most surprised with the deodorant being on our list. We now realize how important oil is to us in our daily lives.

Recreation

Our group looked at Recreation and all the items that were made from oil and oil products. Some of the most useful items were motorcycle helmets, skis, and lego. We felt the most important item was life jackets. We were most surprised with fishing rods being on our list. We now realize how important oil is to us in our daily lives.
