The
following documents are to be used as a guide in the creation of a Technology
Plan for your School Division. The
documents are a result of testing that was carried out by the Potashville
School Division Technology Committee during the 2000-2001 school year. The documents listed should be used in the
order presented. The
following is a summary of the contents of each document. This may aid in determining the relevance
of each document to your particular situation.
What Does It Take To Make
a Tech Plan Work? A brief summary is given on how to
establish a learning culture, using high standards to improve performance,
and how to manage change.
Challenges Facing
Technology in Education Challenges that students, teachers,
and the community will encounter in today’s classroom. What makes a school different from a
commercial information technology environment. This document explores the benefits
of having a tech plan, the implications of not having a tech plan, and a
template to help organize your planning efforts.
Is Your Present Technology
Plan Valid? This quick reference template can be
used to analyze your present tech plan to identify areas where revisions may
be needed.
Present
Stage of Technological Literacy This contains two assessment tools
that can be used by teachers and administrators. They will help you in determining the
current level of technological literacy possessed by your staff. Also, a summary of how administrators view
their own schools and the improvements they would like to see made will be
discovered.
Creating
Your Technology Plan Vision Once you have decided that you need
to renew or create a tech plan, you will have to formulate a vision
statement. This has been shown to be
invaluable in focusing everyone’s efforts to meet a common goal. Determine the current level of
technology within the school division.
This information acts as a benchmark for further developments or
improvements.
Accountability
and Standards to be Met Technology planning is a huge
undertaking, where all participants must share in its successful
implementation. There must be
measurable outcomes that will show all stakeholders that skill levels have
improved. A plan must be in place to support
teachers as they implement new technologies.
Reporting
Successes and Future Needs There will be a keen interest in
whether the implementation of new technology has had a positive impact on
students and teachers. Self-assessment
forms are provided so that progress can be tracked and deficiencies can be
identified. Financing is a very important part of
any technology plan. Some options are
explored.
