Anthem - A song used to express loyalty or support for a country.
Antonym - a word that expresses an opposite concept
Biography - An account of a person's life
Cloze - a test of reading comprehension in which the test taker is asked to supply words that have been systematically deleted from a text.
Inferences - reasoning from factual knowledge or evidence
Predictions - making a knowledgeable assumption about the future
Prologue - An introduction or introductory chapter, as to a novel
Readers Theatre - a form of dramatic interpretation that involves students in reading scripts orally
Self-esteem - Pride in oneself; self-respect.
Synonym - A word having the same or nearly the same meaning as another word
Rainforest
Jungle - A general term which is interchangeable with the term "tropical rainforest"
Tropical Rainforest - Forests located in an area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. They are characterized by abundant rainfall and a very warm and humid climate year round.
Equator - An artificial circle that splits the earth into Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
Bromeliad - A tropical plant that grows on the branches or trunks of trees. It is a member of the pineapple family.
Emergent - The layer of trees in the rainforest that tower above the others and receive the most sunlight.
Forest Floor - This is the bottom layer of the rainforest
Understory - The layer of the rainforest growing under the canopy. This layer is made up of shrubs, herbs, and young trees.
Canopy - A thick overhead layer of the rainforest formed by the branches and the leaves of trees.
