First Aid

Assignment: First Aid Skit

Divide students into small groups (2-3 persons) and assign each group a first aid topic. Topics to include are

• falls
• cuts/bleeding
• burns and scalds
• choking
• poisoning
• electric shock
• eye injuries

Students must research to find accurate, reliable first aid information pertaining to their topic. Based on their findings, they must develop a short skit showing the accident and the administration of the appropriate first aid. The skit shall include

• an introduction to "set the stage" for the skit
• the accident resulting in injury
• the administration of appropriate first aid with important information being presented either through narration or scripted lines

The role play will be presented to the class. Students in each group must be prepared to answer questions regarding their first aid topic following the presentation of the skit.

Additionally, the group must create three to five questions, with answers, about the first aid principles they have researched. Questions from all of the groups may be used for a review assignment for the whole class.

Evaluation: inclusion of required elements, completeness and accuracy of skit content, ability to correctly answer questions, and the quality of the review questions and answers should be the focus of the evaluation.
