Preparing to Cook: Think-Pair-Share Activity

This Think-Pair-Share Activity may be used as an introduction to the course and as an "Ice-breaker" for the students.  It requires every student to access prior knowledge, to work with at least one other student, and to consider the ideas of the class as a whole.

The curriculum guide suggests the following be included in the list:

washing hands
reading and understanding recipes
adjusting oven racks
preheating ovens
preparing pans
assembling and measuring ingredients
combining ingredients
cooking
cleaning up, and
evaluating.

Following the Think-Pair-Share, you may wish to have the students put the class's final list in order.  If cooking lab groups have been established, group members could make a poster of the steps. The poster could be hung in each group's lab area.
