The students should demonstrate:

Confidence, desire, and an ability to solve a variety of mathematically-related problems
An understanding of numbers, patterns, mental calculation, estimation and operations and apply these to real-life situations

Ratio and Proportion
The students should demonstrate:

Confidence, desire, and an ability to solve a variety of mathematically-related problems
An understanding of ratios, proportions, and percents, and an ability to apply these in solving real-life problems

Measurement and Geometry
The students should demonstrate:

Confidence, desire, and an ability to solve a variety of mathematically-related problems
A sense of spatial awareness and familiarity with two and three dimensional shapes and recognize relationships between geometry and the environment
An ability to measure and use appropriate measurement techniques and to apply measurement to real life

Data Management
The students should demonstrate:

Confidence, desire, and an ability to solve a variety of mathematically-related problems
Knowledge and understanding of why and how to collect, organize, interpret and critique data in real-life situations

The students should demonstrate:

Confidence, desire, and an ability to solve a variety of mathematically-related problems
An understanding of principles of algebra and an ability to relate these to real-life situations

The purpose of the learning objects contained in this web site is to provide teachers with ideas to support the actualization of the Saskatchewan Mathematics Curriculum.

These objects are not an outline of the middle year’s curriculum, but rather they present several topics and activities to exemplify the ideas advocated in the Saskatchewan Mathematics Curriculum.

The unifying themes include mathematics as problem solving, mathematics as communication, mathematical reasoning and mathematical connections. These themes are not separate, isolated entities, but rather, they are interrelated .
