y - intercepts-

• Where a graph intersects the y- axis
• Can be calculated by setting x = 0

Example of x and y intercepts for y = x + 1 equation.

Determine the x and y intercepts or 3x + 2y = 18

x - intercepts set y = 0 3x + 2(0) = 18 3x = 18 x = 6

y - intercepts set x = 0 3 (0) + 2y = 18 2y = 18 y = 9

Ex2

Draw the graph of -2x +3y = 6 by using intercepts

x - intercepts -2 x + 3(0) = 6 -2 x = 6 x = -3

y - intercepts -2(0) + 3y = 6 3 y = 6 y = 2
