The Metis Culture and Michif Language site was first conceived by teachers and administrators in 2001. At that time Director of Education, Dr. Bill Duffee, accepted a proposal by Dave Dornstauder, on behalf of the elementary teachers, to promote community language and cultural experiences into the learning program at Rossignol School. The Local School Board quickly endorsed the approach, and asked Dr. Duffee to move the proposal along. Sask Education reviewed the proposal and agreed that is was worthy for extra funding. In the spring of 2002 Dr. Duffee asked KCDC to develop the web site to meet the needs of both students and teachers. The web site design has taken approximately 10 months to complete.

Many individuals need to be recognized for their outstanding service to furthering northern education goals for the students of Rossignol School. We apologize for any errors or omissions. First we would like to thank the elders, who guided the development of the goals and content of the community based approach. They include the following:

Second, The Local School Board members who held long standing meetings, and insisted on following the community based, Metis - Michif approach as defined by the elders include the following: Louis Gardiner (chairperson), Andrew Bouvier, Barb Bournouf, William Caisse, John Daigneault, Marie Adele Desjarlais, Yvette Morin.

To envision a project of this magnitude and to follow through with the appropriate paper work requires an unusual amount of grit, determination, and fortitude. In the this regards the following administrators need to be applauded for their actions: Director of Education, Dr. Bill Duffee; former principal, Dave Dornstauder, present principals, Barb Morin (elementary), and Vince Ahenakew, and vice principals - Sharon Hoffman, and Glen Bouvier.

The burden of creating the bulk of materials fell to the elementary teachers. While the end in sight to finish the project seemed to waver from time to time, the fact that the teachers completed what they set out to do is a testament to their character. More importantly it indicates to a high degree the motivation, caring, and desire to make things better for their students that has become the hallmark of northern teachers. The teachers include: K = Mrs. Elizabeth Caisse, 1M = Mrs. Marina McLean, 1P = Mrs. Nelda Maurice, 2T = Mrs. Barb Toews, 2B = Ms. Adelaide Bouvier, 3A = Michelle Ahenakew, 3B = Mr. Gary Ball, 4C = Ruby Caisse, 4M = William McMaster, 5M = Ms. Cary McMaster, 5W = Ms. Tammy Witney . Language teachers included: Vince Ahenakew, Barb Morin, and Bev McLean.

The task of creating the web site fell to KCDC employees - Morris Brizinski and Edwin Morin. Their creative flair, duty to work, and desire to make the Metis Culture and Michif Language site the best in its field is to some a goal realized.
