Reflections I am very pleased with the ideologies behind this assignment. I truly believe that a student can showcase learned material by teaching it. Furthermore, if a student can develop a way to teach a topic that they struggle with it will further their learning and reveal growth and areas of need. In general many of the students achieved on par with how they do in the regular course, however the writing aspect allowed those linguistic students to flourish. Also, those students who are intimidated by math were able to find a deferent outlet that allowed them to feel more at ease with some topics. Another positive was the promotion of reading and writing in mathematics. Students used present and out of use textbooks to research different approaches to teaching specific topics. As well students improved their use of math terminology. What needs improvement... In reading the final products it was obvious there were definite areas for improvement. First, most of the students require more exposure to reading math texts. The students found it difficult to read through proof, many looked for the 'formula' to use first. I now realize that I need to take the time to have students read more often during regular lessons just as we do in more language based courses. Moreover, I saw the benefit in students figuring out their own problems. Secondly, it bothers me how little amount of time the students were able to work on this in class. It was obvious that many students rushed their project, which is normal, but with opportunities to work in class their may be time for mini-lessons, peer editing, or teacher editing.
