Background to the Project
At the Annual Meeting of Diocesan and School Division Religious Education Coordinators and Consultants held in Saskatoon on 12 May 2000, there was unanimous support for assisting separate school educators in ensuring that the Catholic faith permeates all curricula and everything done in the school. Given the demographics of Catholic School Divisions in our province, it was concluded that technology can support Catholic educators in networking and sharing teaching ideas and content regarding the permeation of Catholic faith through all curricula. At this meeting, five school divisions (Swift Current Catholic #11, Moose Jaw Catholic #22, Regina Catholic #81, Saskatoon Catholic #20, and North West Catholic #16) developed, and later submitted, a proposal under the Learning Technology/Distance Learning Content Development Project sponsored by Saskatchewan Education. In June 2000, Saskatchewan Education approved a grant to fund the Catholic Curriculum Online Development Project. Together with the combined support of all Catholic School Divisions in the province and the Catholic Section of the Saskatchewan School Trustees Association, the project officially began on 1 December 2000.
